Top (6/7) Songs from Panty and Stocking /w Garterbelt Soundtrack

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt Original Soundtrack Moe Kawaii

A slow day for anime, without a doubt, but a busy, busy day for moi. As such, I’ll keep this post relatively short (Aren’t blog posts supposed to be short in the first place?). Anyways, I’ve now chosen the 6th track off of this album that I would recommend to all you music lovers out there, even if you’ve never touched an anime DVD in your life. Missed the first one? Don’t fret, that’s what links are for.

6. D City Rock by Teddyloid feat. Debra Zeer (Listen)

No, that is not a misspelling of “Zebra Deer”, the featured artist really is called Debra Zeer, though I’d hate to think what kind of freakish animal would look like that. Maybe like this. Woops, sorry, wrong animal. That’s a twisted love child of a zebra and a kangaroo. Okay, how about this? Better.

I’ll excuse his dyed hair and Pete Wentz wannabe look because of the fact that this dude makes good remixes and studio productions. Who might that be? Well, I’m talking about Teddyloid, of course (on the right).

It starts off like any other pop-rock that’s come out in the past ten years. Think Avril Lavigne with a tinge of Auto-tune, and you have the basic sound of this song. The thing that struck me as odd from this track was the grammatical correctness. You hear a lot of Engrish coming out from the Asian music market these days and the English they put into their songs is abysmal. Not so for this song as, for the most part, the English is actually coherent. You won’t hear something like “Minna-san, Let’s fighting!” here.

Ha, I crack myself up, but back to the song. Though the chunky, palm-muted power chords are standard fare, the lyrics accurately address the characteristics of the Anarchy sisters, which is neat. The producers have obviously thought to make the song fit into the source material. I wouldn’t normally suggest that anyone listen to this kind of song, yet the cohesiveness with the rest of the album, and the anime as well, is admirable.

The censor near the beginning of the song is also a subtle touch that many might not notice as being significant. What, with thousands of songs on the radio getting edited for radio-airplay, people don’t bat an eyelash at censoring anymore. In that sense, D City Rock pokes fun at some of the censorship rules that pervade in today’s society. Hell, the whole anime revels in its own absurdness and dirtiness.

And for all of your dedication over the last two posts, the next update in this series will contain the rest of the list. (Oh boy!) I’ll  keep the review short,  succinct, and to the point. So look forward to that, peeps!

  1. Cool! Thanks for the link and for the info, I didn’t know who the artist is. I’m also enjoying the vibe and pop-rock songs of Panty and Stockings. They’re well-suited with the funkiness and bizarreness of the show, and add comedic value into it.

Btw, saw you’re AnoHana post, and I’m so tempted to read it. Thank goodness I was able to resist because I haven’t seen it yet.

    • I don’t really like songs like this one, D City Rock, but for this anime’s soundtrack, I’ll make an exception. Yeah, I probably already said that in the post, but it fits the anime well That’s why I like it.

Oh, and a lot of the other songs are sort of techno and dance songs. Which I especially like. :D

What are you waiting for? Read it. xD

  2. Still planning to watch the anime, before listening to the soundtrack, however, heard good things about it.

  3. It amazes me that I still listen to this song multiple times per week. I always liked it from the first time I heard it, but I never imagined it would have this much staying power.

    • True that, though I do like the other more club-oriented songs in this anime soundtrack for some reason.

Which reminds me…. I haven’t worked on this series on a while – better hop to it!
